Hello, neighbors! This week's issue is about the little things that make life along Collins Avenue feel connected—and the bigger city decisions worth following.

Three local stories to know: The Welcome Center at Gateway Center is ready to help visitors get oriented, Sunny Isles Beach is preparing for its November 11 Veterans Wall tribute, and the city's 2026–27 budget puts drainage, seawalls, and parks in focus.

Looking ahead to the weekend? We've rounded up a piano performance in Aventura, a family art workshop in North Miami, and a Sunday dining option right here in Sunny Isles. Keep scrolling for the details. 🌴

Planning a visit to Sunny Isles Beach? The city's Welcome Center at Gateway Center, 151 Sunny Isles Boulevard, offers a local starting point for questions about dining, shopping, beach access and activities.

The official Welcome Center page lists hours of Wednesday through Sunday, 1–6 p.m., with Monday and Tuesday closures. Visitors can call 305-792-1766 or email welcome@sibfl.net to check details before arriving.

The Welcome Center sits within Gateway Center, but its visitor-desk hours differ from broader facility schedules. Some resident activities also have separate participation requirements.

The different hours for Gateway Center and the Welcome Center are worth pointing out. I would have assumed they were the same.

Sunny Isles Beach will honor local veterans on Wednesday, November 11, 2026. The city's official event page schedules a Veterans Day ceremony at Heritage Park, 19200 Collins Avenue, from 9–11 a.m.

The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. and includes the unveiling of new names on the Veterans Wall. Light refreshments will follow. Admission and event parking are free, and registration is appreciated but not required.

Families interested in adding a veteran's name in a future year can review the official nomination process. The city requires proof of honorable discharge and Sunny Isles Beach residency, with nominations due before September 1 for that year's ceremony.

I’m glad registration isn’t required. I do wonder if starting at 9 makes it hard for working neighbors to come, even for part of the ceremon…

Sunny Isles Beach’s 2026–27 budget sets out the city’s priorities for drainage, coastal protection, parks, bridges and public safety.

The city says it reduced its municipal operating tax rate to 1.6514 mills per $1,000 of assessed value.

Its five-year capital program prioritizes Central Island Drainage and the Bella Vista Bay Park seawall, while also committing to Atlantic Isles Bridge rehabilitation, citywide security, sign replacements and Town Center Park renovations.

For residents, the budget shows what the city intends to tackle, not a guarantee that every project has a final design, construction date or price.

I'm less convinced about citywide security being grouped with the bridge and drainage work. What does that money actually pay for, and how w…

Jeniffer Viscarra: Eight Years of Listening and Local Leadership

Sunny Isles Beach Vice Mayor Jeniffer Viscarra has spent eight years serving residents as Seat 4 commissioner. Before winning election in 2018, she chaired the City Advisory Committee, helping connect neighbors with local government.

Why this matters: Her experience offers a window into how resident ideas can become city programs- and why neighborhood voices matter in shaping Sunny Isles Beach.

Meet Milo, a 12-year-old Beagle mix listed with the Humane Society of Greater Miami. His pet profile describes an affectionate, cuddly dog who enjoys stuffed toys, gentle walks and spending time with people.

Low activity level does not mean a senior dog needs no walks, enrichment or attention. A patient household with a realistic care plan may want to learn more about Milo's individual needs and what shelter staff have observed.

To take the next step, check Milo's live listing and note pet ID 61631215. Review the Humane Society's adoption information for visiting arrangements, paperwork and current fees, then contact the shelter before traveling.

🌿 Mindful Minute

LET THE SHORELINE SET THE PACE.

Between plans, errands and Collins Avenue traffic, give yourself a few quiet minutes. Take a comfortable walk near the beach or sit somewhere shaded and notice the breeze, the sound of the water and the changing light over the ocean.

Try this: Put your phone away for five minutes. Relax your shoulders, take a few natural breaths and name three things you can see, two you can hear and one you can feel.

🌱 Tiny takeaway: You don't need a packed schedule to enjoy a beautiful Sunny Isles weekend.

✨ The Beauty Drop

YOUR COASTAL WEEKEND SKIN-CARE CHECK.

Whether you're heading to the beach, browsing the neighborhood or dressing up for an evening out, Sunny Isles sunshine and sea breezes call for a simple routine—not a complicated one.

Before you go: Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher to exposed skin, and reapply about every two hours when outdoors or after swimming or sweating. See the American Academy of Dermatology's sunscreen guidance.

For your bag: Bring water, sunglasses, a hat, and a lip balm with SPF. A light moisturizer can help skin feel comfortable after a breezy beach walk.

✨ The takeaway: Sun protection is part of the Sunny Isles lifestyle, even when the beach isn't your main destination.

✦

💛 Until next week, Sunny Isles!
